Money mindset work changed my Life

Money mindset came into my life when I finally opened my eyes to it.

I decided to start changing my relationship to money after a really eye opening discovery call.

I had a discovery call with a dream client for my coaching business and when I told her my prices, she asked..

“Why are your prices so low? You’re giving so much support and content, you also come highly referred.. but you’re the cheapest coach I’ve talked to and that kind of scares me..”

She eventually went on to sign on with a $13,000 coach when my prices were $2500 at that time….OUCH right?

No guys, it was the best discovery call I’ve ever had because she also told me to raise my prices to $5,000, that I was worth it and that I was at that level…

But after our conversation is when my money journey began. Even after that conversation… I couldn’t raise my prices.

I had a potential client telling me to raise my prices and I still couldn’t do it.

I didn’t know what was going on, I didn’t understand why I couldn’t charge $13,000 for my coaching or at least $5,000.

After our conversation, I struggled for another couple months before I dove deep into my money mindset.

I started to uncover stories, beliefs, and thoughts I was having around money, I realized that I didn’t want to raise my prices because I was afraid of things like:

  • not getting the client results

  • not being worthy of a $5,000 investment

  • that I would have to work REALLY HARD if someone paid me that much money and practically name my first born after them!

  • that I didn’t see myself as an amazing coach (even though I had already sold my first business before turning 30)

  • that I didn’t think I was ready yet

So I dove in, I started journaling a shit ton, I read about 10 books all on money mindset, how millionaires think, I started tracking every dollar, I started becoming aware of all the little thoughts I had about money, I started coming to terms with my money story, and why I was scared to raise my prices.

I dove in deep, I did that ugly work… of FUCK, I don’t want to face myself or my shitty thoughts. I just want to skip over this work and get to the reward.

Within 6 months of doing money mindset work + changing my money habits I:

  • QUADRUPLED my prices and booked out my 1:1

  • I had my biggest cash + biggest profit month ever

  • I paid off (almost) all of my debt

  • I paid for all the other things in my life with cash

  • I took my mom on a weekend to NYC

  • I went on an international trip to a snowy mountain town for my birthday

  • I invested in myself and didn’t go into debt

Here's my top 10 money mindset books that have changed my life:

1) Think + Grow Rich

Think and Grow Rich has been called the "Granddaddy of All Motivational Literature." It was the first book to boldly ask, "What makes a winner?" The man who asked and listened for the answer, Napoleon Hill, is now counted in the top ranks of the world's winners himself.

The most famous of all teachers of success spent "a fortune and the better part of a lifetime of effort" to produce the "Law of Success" philosophy that forms the basis of his books and that is so powerfully summarized in this one.

^ Stole this straight from the Amazon page

My favorite way to digest this book was through audio, I tried to read the book a couple times and struggled through it.

The book was written like a long time ago so I highly suggest buying the audio version and listening to it while doing stuff around the house. I remember clearly listening to book for the first time while I was mopping my kitchen floor. I remember it so clearly because there was so many ah-ha’s I had in that moment around money, around how I was running the business, and just how I was operating in general.

There were things about the personal attributes it takes to become rich.

There were things about the habits and thoughts you need to become rich.

All of them were ah-mazing.

I’m sure I’m not the first person to tell you to read this book if you want to get rich, so if I’m the 100th person… yes take this as your sign to READ THE FREAKING BOOK.

2) Think and Grow Rich for Women

Women are the future of American business. According to a recent Nielsen report, women will control two-thirds of American consumer wealth in less than a decade.

And yet almost all business and success literature is still written for men—dispensing advice that doesn’t take into account women’s unique strengths or address the demands of family life on mothers.

Think and Grow Rich for Women is a powerful new book—from the award-winning author of Think and Grow Rich: Three Feet from Gold and coauthor of the multimillion-selling Rich Dad, Poor Dad. It combines Hill’s classic Thirteen Steps to Success with case studies of noteworthy women (including Sandra Day O’Connor, Maya Angelou, Katie Couric, Caroline Kennedy, Madonna, Oprah Winfrey, Margaret Thatcher, Condoleezza Rice, J. K. Rowling, Barbara De Angelis, Marianne Williamson, Angela MerkelMary Kay Ash, IBM CEO Ginni Rometty, and many more), outlining a master plan for success for all women.

I purchased this one in the hard copy good old fashion paper version, I knew it was going to be something that I wanted to read in the hot tub or in the bath tub.

This book is obviously similar to Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill BUT it was so refreshing to read this book from a women’s perspective, because the truth is being a woman we have different ideas, needs, and thoughts about money.

A lot of times we are creating and making money for our families, for our children, and basically, we want to make money for different reasons than men.

When we read books or get business advice from men it can just feel off right?

We have different priorities, different ways of thinking, and different motivation than men, so we need a book that expresses that too.

4) Get Rich Lucky Bitch

Are you ready to get rich?So you want to manifest more money this year. You're not alone.

But why does it feel so freaking hard? It's weird and frankly bewildering that the most talented women in the world are often the ones struggling to make fabulous money from their talents.

Too many female entrepreneurs sabotage their income and work too hard for too little. Why do most women settle for pennies instead of embracing true wealth?

It's not because you're not smart or ambitious enough. You've just been programmed to block your Universal right to wealth with guilt, shame or embarrassment.

Denise is MY HERO. You might call me a Denise Duffield Thomas junkie, because I have bought all 3 of her courses, but YES FOR REAL, she is a major player in the money mindset field.

This book is woo woo and manifestation based, if you’re not into that stuff, don’t read this one.

Let me tell you the story about this book:

  1. I was reading it on my honeymoon in Hawaii.

  2. Hawaii was WAAAYYY more expensive than what my husband and I had budgeted.

  3. While we were there, I said to my husband, babe don’t worry I’m reading this book and it will be taken care of… my husbands reaction was of course.."WTF”

honeymoon manifested.jpg

4. When we returned home from the trip..there was an envelope on our door step addressed to him.

5. The amount of money WAS THE EXACT AMOUNT OF MONEY WE SPENT ON OUR HONEYMOON.

>> WTF WAS IT? <<

My husband paid over the amount into his 401K that his company had allowed.. like A YEAR AGO.

A year late they refunded the amount that he over paid, much to his annoyance, I credit it all to Get Rich Lucky Bitch. :)

4) How Rich People Think

This book will teach you how rich people think. It compares the thoughts, habits and philosophies of the middle class to the world class when it comes to wealth. The differences are as extreme as they are numerous.

The strategy is simple: learn how rich people think, copy them, take action and get rich.

This book hits hard and never lets up. It's based on a quarter century of interviews with millionaires. It's written in unfiltered, politically incorrect language that makes the point crystal clear and easy to follow. The hundreds of millionaires interviewed for this book had nothing to gain by sharing their secrets, nor any interest in sugar-coating their advice.

These people gave me unprecedented access to their lifestyle and playgrounds; from Palm Beach to Aspen. I was searching for the raw, uncensored truth about how rich people think, and they agreed to share it with me on the promise that their names never be published and their remarks never made public.

I've mixed their wisdom with my words, and the result is a book so brutally honest it will shock some and inspire others. If you've ever dreamed of living a life most people only see in movies, study this book like a scientist.

Freedom from financial worries and a millionaire's lifestyle is closer than you think

AKA: Rich people think differently and getting rich STARTS IN YOUR MIND.. DUHHH.

This book was part of suggested reading for a money mindset program I was in and this one was much more direct. Sometimes money mindset books can be woo woo or manifestation based but this one was just about a guy that spoke to a whole bunch of millionaires and put it all together in this book.

5) Secrets of the Millionaire Mind: Mastering the inner game of Wealth

Secrets of the Millionaire Mind reveals the missing link between wanting success and achieving it!

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to get rich easily, while others are destined for a life of financial struggle? Is the difference found in their education, intelligence, skills, timing, work habits, contacts, luck, or their choice of jobs, businesses, or investments?

The shocking answer is: None of the above!

In his groundbreaking Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, T. Harv Eker states: "Give me five minutes, and I can predict your financial future for the rest of your life!" Eker does this by identifying your "money and success blueprint." We all have a personal money blueprint ingrained in our subconscious minds, and it is this blueprint, more than anything, that will determine our financial lives.

You can know everything about marketing, sales, negotiations, stocks, real estate, and the world of finance, but if your money blueprint is not set for a high level of success, you will never have a lot of money—and if somehow you do, you will most likely lose it! The good news is that now you can actually reset your money blueprint to create natural and automatic success.

6) F.U. Money

In this no-nonsense, no-holds-barred guide, international entrepreneur, best-selling author, and self-made multi-millionaire Dan Lok shows you how to live the lifestyle you really want without having to work or rely on anyone else for money

Okay so Dan Lok might be the guy that reminds you of the other entrepreneur bros out there. That show you their nice cars and their nice houses and are like you can have this too! But I gave this book a shot and finished it in about a day.

He is the real deal! I really enjoyed Dan’s book, it was a quick read, and who wouldn’t want FUCK YOU MONEY?

My favorite part about this book: how honest Dan is, if you don’t like that, then probably don’t read

This one would be a fun quick read at the beach or for those days you’re trapped inside during a snow storm.

7) Overcoming Under Earning

When it comes to money, are you controlled by fear?
Do you underestimate your worth?
Are you ready to go to the next level, but can't seem to get there?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be an underearner. Underearners are self-saboteurs who don't live up to their earnings potential, says

Underearners can make $10 an hour or six figures a year, but they tend to live paycheck to paycheck, are often in debt, and have a high tolerance for low pay.

Ironically, many work incredibly hard.

The good news is that underearning is a self-imposed condition. By focusing on overcoming it, underearners will not only earn what they deserve, but live a richer life.

With techniques and exercises that have helped thousands of people, Stanny teaches five essential steps to financial independence and brings a message of empowerment to all those who chronically undervalue themselves.

THIS ONE IS MY FAVORITE!

This is the one out of all these books that I come back to read OVER AND OVER AND OVER. Okay so remember at the beginning of this post when I told you the story about undercharging for my coaching and I just COULD NOT bring myself to raise my prices?

This was the first book I turned to because my worth was all messed up. This book made me not feel alone in undercharging and helped me to put into perspective that.. YES a lot of women struggles with this but you don’t have to continue.

Her book is one I come back to over and over again, I just read it a couple months ago. The first time I read it was 2 years ago.

This book will walk you through how to stop sabotaging your money, how to increase your prices, and get you to feel so freaking worthy.

8) The Millionaire Next Door

The bestselling The Millionaire Next Door identifies seven common traits that show up again and again among those who have accumulated wealth.

Most of the truly wealthy in this country don't live in Beverly Hills or on Park Avenue-they live next door.

This new edition, the first since 1998, includes a new foreword for the twenty-first century by Dr. Thomas J. Stanley.

This book will completely change the way you view what being rich means and who you think is rich. There’s a lot of people in the world who are rich but you would have no clue because of the way you think rich appears.

I think a lot of us think rich is:

  • a Lexus or BMW

  • Big House

  • Nice clothes

While a lot of people who have money.. like to keep their money. Which means they drive around vehicles that are quality, affordable, but not expensive to fix up (like Lexus or BMW). They buy quality clothes that will last but they’re not consistently buying new trendy clothes.

Read this book to change the way you think about how rich people appear, trust me, you’ll start to think TOTALLY different about how you spend your money.

9) Money: A love story
